The folks at Mozilla are chatting about Boot to Gecko (B2G). Essentially B2G runs web pages/apps on an open web OS. This means several level layers of abstraction removed from the web browser you use now, resulting in apps that run as efficient (possibly) as native apps. Now all the ease of development and hot design methodologies can be applied to building apps as “legit” as the natives.

Freebase is (loosely) an open graph database, comprising of things and their relationships. The approach that is suggested for a web made of metadata strikes has a strong potential for a collaborative workspace, that is both peer reviewed and flexible to change. Freebase can be implemented through building bases, I will have to give that a go
